We're considering booking a Christmas Markets cruise with another couple. Neither of us have ever done a riverboat cruise before. While we love the idea of the Christmas market cruises we're wondering how or it the excursions differ from the same itinerary in the autumn. Do we still get to see and do Europe as we would any other time of the year, or are the excursions mainly focused on the Christmas markets? We want to do it all! Will that require two separate trips?Report Abuse Reply to this post

Yes, the itinerary may slightly vary as you will be visiting some Christmas Markets during the holiday season cruises. I would compare the day-to-day info for the itineraries you are comparing and review which excursions appeal to you. If it is your first river cruise, I would suggest going when the weather is pleasant so you can experience a river cruise that would have nice enough weather for you to spend some time on the sun deck enjoying the view or dining al fresco.
Feel free to contact your travel agent or our guest services team so they can offer you suggestions on which cruise would the best fit for you based on your previous travel experience and your interests.

Having river cruised in Springtime as well as the Christmas / New Year's time, I say any time is a good time. It all depends on what your interests are. Christmas was magical in Germany and Springtime in France was amazing. Dress for the weather and travel with an open mind and you'll love it.Report Abuse Reply to this post

I've taken a Danube Discovery river cruise that became European Christmas Markets in late November and December. The itinerary was almost identical but, yes, Christmas markets are the highlight! I've taken about five river cruises and have yet to find fault with any one of them. Each has its own "character," its own personality. There is nothing like gently-falling snow touching the church spires of a medieval town and glowing lights of the markets. I've booked clients on the December river cruises and they returned telling me they want to do it again!

My wife and I have cruised with Uniworld both in the spring and during the Christmas Market season, we will be returning again this Christmas season for the 3rd time. We think Europe and especially Germany is magical in the winter, far less crowds than spring in summer months, you get to experience these great cities with the locals visiting the Christmas Markets versus 1000's of spring and summer tourists. YOU WILL Not be dissapointed.Report Abuse Reply to this post
