Rhine Holiday Markets: late opening of Christmas Markets

We have booked and paid in full for the Rhine Holiday Markets cruise beggining November 25th, 2012 on the River Antoinette. This will be our 3rd Christmas Markets river cruise with Uniworld, two prior on the River Duchess with I think it was "Captain Frank".

My concern after booking and paying in full is in doing some outside research on the opening dates of the Christmas Markets I seem to realize that when we are in Rudesheim on the 27th of November, there Christmas Market does not open until the 29th of November and when in Mainz on the 28th of November, there Christmas Market does not open until the 29th as well. Am I correct on this, is Uniworld aware of this. I guess this cruise should have had a slightly different narative on the website for this weeks sailing stating that the markets may not be open when these ports are visited?

Hello,

Thank you for your post. This particular itinerary date is in the reverse direction, departing Cologne to Basel. I checked the website and our internal database and on day 3, November 27, you will arrive in Koblenz. Here your scheduled excursion is a visit to the Koblenz Christmas Market and in the evening you are scheduled to sail along the Rhine arriving in Rudesheim later that evening. You will overnight in Rudesheim on day 3 and on day 4, November 28, you will "wake up" in Rudesheim. The scheduled included excursion is Siegfried's Music Museum (in Rudesheim) and later that day you will cruise to Mainz, where you will have free time to spend at your leisure.

As the website and cruise companion booklet state (links below), there are no Christmas Markets excursions scheduled for the time scheduled in Rudesheim or Mainz (Day 4, Nov.28).

On Day 5, November 29, you will arrive in Germershiem (Heidelberg). The scheduled included excursion on Day 5 (Nov.29) is a full day in Heidelberg and Christmas Markets. For reference, the Koblenz Christmas Market opens November 23 and the Heidelberg Christmas Market opens November 21.

You can find more information about this reverse itinerary here:

Please let me know if you have any additional questions as well. I would be happy to send you more information.

Thank you,

I guess when I read the Basel to Cologne Itinery, I made the mistake of assuming that the schedule would be the same just in reverse order, I guess I should have read the details each day on the reverse itinery closer to realize that we will miss the Christmas Markets in these two cities.
