We are taking this cruise (our first) in Septembver 2013. Do you remember what the weather was like in September when you went? Also, we are hearing that these river cruises are very casual. What was the attire really like for the two formal nights? We have been told that a sweater for a man is perfectly okay, which pleases my husband who hates to "dress up" (we live in very casual Idaho). I don't want to be embarassed by being underdressed, so your comments on this would be really helpful. Thank you in advance. WE ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT TAKING THIS CRUISE!!!!!

Get ready for a wonderful vacation. Assume the weather in September will be glorious, with a bit of surprises. Umbrellas are in your cabin just in case they are needed. Good walking shoes are a must. Comfort always wins over style. And yes, casual is the way...not sloppy sweats, but slacks and shirts were just fine. for the two dress up dinners your husbandshould fit in with shirt and tie and a sport jacket if he wants. Full suit is really optional. Ladies can glam it up or a pretty top and dressy pants work well.A laundry is on board, so don't overpack...leave room for your purchaes!

We are cruising on the same trip. While we cannot call ourselves educated when it comes to wine, but we thoroughly enjoy it and really look forward to this aspect of the trip. Looking forward to meeting you too. There are 4 of us from the Toronto area and this will be our first river cruise.

Hello. We took this cruise in September, Basel to Switzerland. Had only a sprinkling of rain on 2 days, nothing to make you want to skip the tours but enough to smatter your glasses. We all elected to leave our umbrellas in the room as we all had hooded rain jackets which worked well for all of us.
We were so fortunate that on the one afternnon where we were doing the stretch of all the castles, it was approx 26C (79F) so we sat on deck, sipping our wine and just drank in the sights. It was glorious.

As far as the dressing up for the welcome and farewell dinners, there were a few suits, yes. Our guys were perfectly at home (and fit right in) in their dress pants and golf shirts. I packed along some nice capris and a few skirts which packed nice and I was able to jazz up with some simple accessories. We travelled extensively for 9 days leading up to the cruise so we didn't have room for fancy suits and expensive high-maintenance clothing. River cruising is more about comfortable chic then fancy schmancy.

Just finished doing my pre-cruise check-in for our next cruise this August, Grand Danube & Pragiue Just thinking about it is making me happy all over again.

Any suggestions for optional tours? we are going Ams to Basel on June 25.
We did Provence in 2011 my husband wore slacks and button down shirt, never felt underdressed. No tie or jacket for him. I did dressier slacks or casual skirt and blouse. Leave the dressy clothes home and it will be fine.
