Imperial Capitals of Europe: Featured excursion in Svistov, Bulgaria

The Cruise Companion mentions a Choice is Yours Featured Excursion: Half-day Ivanovo and Basarbovo monasteries and Rusenski Lom Nature Park with lunch onboard.

The description of this excursion details both stops to the Ivanovo and Basarbovo monasteries and then says "After enjoying these remarkable rock-hewn churches, you'll return to your ship in time for lunch." The question is, to what extent, if at all, is Rusenski Lom Nature Park included in this excursion?

We've booked the Vienna to Istanbul direction.

Jacqueline

Hello,

This is Anne, Uniworld's community manager. I just read the cruise guide book and it looks like this excursion is a full day and includes a boxed lunch. You will return to the ship in time to prepare for the Captain's Dinner in the evening.

Choice Is Yours Featured Excursion: Full-day Ivanovo and Basarbovo monasteries and Rusenski Lom Nature Park with boxed lunch.

Board a motorcoach bound for the Ivanovo Rock Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built inside a 52-foot-long (16-m-long) after a short walk along a wooded trail. The Ivanovo Rock Monastery was built in the 13th century and features a network of small churches, chapels, and cells hewn into therock. The complex is famous for its beautiful and well-preserved 14th-century murals.

Your next stop is the Basarbovo Rock Monastery, also called St. Dimitar Basarabovski. This is the only active rock monastery in Bulgaria. Ascend the narrow rock stairway to the 15th-century cloister, which features arresting frescoes and a well whose waters are purported to have healing powers.

After enjoying these remarkable rock-hewn churches, you’ll return to the ship in Nikopol.

A special Captain’s Welcome Gala has been planned for you this evening.

Thank you, Annie, for your reply.

The verbage you've quoted is exactly what I see in the Cruise Companion when you look at the "Istanbul to Vienna" trip. However if you look at the "Vienna to Istanbul" version (which we are taking), you will see this excursion is listed as a half-day with lunch onboard. Also in neither case is there a description of the nature park activities.

Respectfully,
Jacqueline

The Ivanovo Rock Monastery is situated within the Rusenski Lom Nature Park above the picturesque Rusesnski Lom River. You will be there for about 45 minutes to see the monastery and then you will be taken by motorcoach to the St. Dimitri Basarbovo Monastery. You will be at the monastery for about 30 minutes plus 30 minutes of free time. This monastery is located in the Rusensky Lom River Valley.
You will not have much free time to go on your own and explore the nature park unless you decide to skip the 45-minute tour of Ivanovo Monastery. If you would like to explore the park on your own, please speak with your cruise manager.

Yes, we are going on the Vienna to Istanbul trip on April 8th. The Istanbul by night tour looks very special. We will also take the Mozart and Strauss Concert tour.
