I urge you to spend at least one extra day in Basel. It's a lovely and interesting city, and if you stay in a hotel you get a free pass on the city-wide trolley.

Hello Everyone! Time to get some serious planning going before our big departure from Southern California! We can't wait to step on the plane and only look forward through the whole trip, meet everyone and have a good time. We are also arriving a couple days prior and exploring Amsterdam. I want to avoid over-packing, any tips? I know layers, layers, layers, right? Is it cold on the ship during the evening while lounging around? My husband says a drink or two will take care of the chills, ha ha! Anyway, we look forward to a fantastic time with all of you- please share your thoughts and ideas... Dru & Ed

The weather can be unpredictable in May, so yes layering is a good idea. I recall one trip my wife and took to Paris a few years ago and the forecast was for 18 - 20 degrees C each day, we arrived there under a sweltering 30 degrees and it never cooled the whole week,

Amsterdam is a great city to tour, very "walkable". Just remember that the cyclists seem to rule the road.

Regards,

David

Greetings from Virginia Beach. We too will be on the Amsterdam to Basel May 4 trip. We arrive on Saturday morning the 4th (if sequestering the FAA doesn't slow us down) and will spend a few days in Basel before we head back to Virginia. This will be our 4th Uniworld adventure and are looking forward to it. Claudia & Bill

Well, I stand corrected....we do leave on May 4, and are doing the 2 week Amsterdam to Basel trip with a side cruise down the Moselle, thus the 12-14 day thing, not the Castles along the Rhine. So ignore my earlier posts...we'll be a day ahead of you I guess!

Hi Bill, sounds like you've done a few Uniworld cruises. Which one has been you favorite? We are thinking of taking the cruise on the Danube in the future. Ed
