Advice: Castles along the Rhine

Our trip is Basel to Amsterdam in May 2013. We would like to arrive at least 3 days prior to explore Basel and surrounding areas. After reading that we cannot meet up with the group at the airport for transfer to the ship I need to know how to get to the port from Basel. Do you have any recommendations as to where to stay in Basel that is close to the port? I cannot find an address to the port anywhere so that would be helpful as well.
Anything helps!
Basil

Hello,

Thank you for your post. For the Castles Along the Rhine Itinerary, Basel to Amsterdam, to port address in Basel is Westquaistrasse 61 CH-4057. The pier name is Drelander Eck. The approximate distance from the city center to the port address (given above) is roughly 15 minutes. A taxi would cost approximately 35 franks. All the above information distributed is approximate and subject to change.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to email communitymanager@uniworld.com.

Thank you,

Hi... I have been on a Uniworld River Cruise before and loved it. It is very different from the large cruise ships. Much more quiet and serene. You get to know everyone as you tour with the same people and we all eat at the same time. Its a little quiet after the entertainment at night (about 9pm) but I read or just talk and enjoy the "down time". We are going on the same trip you are taking but we are going in Oct. We are staying in Switzerland for about 5 days before the cruise. In Basal we are staying at Hotel Victoria.
Enjoy your cruise!!!

we are the Christmas Castles from Basal to Cologne and planning on staying in this hotel two nights prior to cruise.. There is a great hotel in Basal called the Merian am rhein. Right on the river, part of the best western chain. On the internet there were no river front rooms, so we called the hotel directly, got a great price, on the river and includes breakfast. Haven't stayed there yet, but it got a lot of good write ups. Can walk to the downtown across the bridge. Right on river and near by cruise ports. Talked to a Sondra, phone Switzerland 061-685-11-11

Hi, we took this same trip in September 2010 and loved every minute of it. We went into Basel by train and just took a cab to the dock. Just be sure to have the right dock address because there are some on one side of the river and some on the other. We showed the taxi driver the address and he knew exactly where to go. As someone noted, be sure to have some francs as the Swiss do not use the Euro. Can't help with the hotel as we did not stay but I'm sure there are many nice hotels. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We are going this May on the Lisbon/Douro River trip (on UniWorld of course).

We are also going on Castles along the Rhine in October. October 13 to be exact. We just booked yesterday and are very excited!
We re planning on staying in Amsterdam 3 days or so (any hotel hints?) and are thinking about Paris before Basel.

Hi,
We are on the same cruise, but leaving April 7th. We are spending three nights in Amsterdam on a house boat we found on Bookings.com. Houseboat under the mill costs about 120 Euros per night. Bookings.com is a good sorce as the listings can be sorted by rateing or cost or by type. Did the same for Basel and hope that the discriptions and deals will be satisfactory. We'll let all know after the trip.
