A Wonderful Prospect
A shipboard career on river cruise ships is for those professionals who are interested in an adventure and meeting new people. It is also for those who enjoy a diverse and multicultural environment that is dynamic and guest-focused.

Life onboard a river ship is unique, and you may wonder if this is the right environment for you.
Work Schedule
Assignments are determined by position, and length can vary based on the particular rank. We offer some senior managers permanent work contracts; all other positions usually have seasonal contracts of between 9 to 10 months. During the sailing season from March to November, all crew members average approximately 8 weeks paid holidays.
Social and Medical Insurance
We at Uniworld in Basel are proud to only issue Swiss contracts to crew on onboard our ships in Europe. Consequently we fully pay Swiss social insurance tax which is widely accredited by governments worldwide, personal pension fund contributions, as well as worldwide medical insurance. Uniworld is not only a good employer for the short term, but a personal investment into your future.
Development Possibilities
We actively support the development and career prospects of all our employees. Many current senior managers have started with Uniworld in junior positions and are now taking on responsibilities as head chef, housekeeper, hotel manager, and captain onboard. We evaluate each individual’s potential on a regular basis and support dedicated employees throughout their professional career within the organization.
Work Environment
With an intimate environment of approximately 130 guests, each Uniworld ship offers a unique opportunity to achieve success through extraordinary service, while enriching your own experience in a world-class operation. Though it can be very rewarding, it can also be challenging, especially in the beginning of your career. Because it's a luxury 24-hour operation, you can expect to work long hours. However, you will still have opportunities to explore destinations along the rivers with many overnight stays in some of the most exciting European cities.
Peers
All our crew members are European citizens, professionals in their field, and have a passion for service. They have recognized the benefits of working for the market leader in this industry, are exceptionally hard working and very dedicated to provide the worldwide accredited luxurious service our guests expect onboard Uniworld ships.
Accommodation
Since space is at a premium, all cabins are designed to maximize efficiency, and depending on your role onboard, you may share a cabin with one, rarely two other team mates. Working and living in close proximity with your colleagues will take some adjusting. However, this is an excellent opportunity to develop strong friendships with fun and interesting people from all over Europe.
Safety Onboard
Safety for guests and crew onboard is very important to us. In order to ensure that everyone is familiar with safety procedures (in case of an emergency), you will be expected to participate in relevant training sessions and drills that occur on a regular basis.
"A career in river cruising is an exciting prospect, especially as this industry is currently undergoing extensive growth with many new ships being built every year. The strong and sustainable growth of Uniworld in particular is a perfect environment for dedicated and loyal employees to develop a  career within this innovative organization, and learn from one of the best in luxury river cruising."
