Christmas Market Cruise River Duchess,

12/20/2013
I recently returned from a week-long cruise aboard the River Duchess. We sailed the Danube from Vienna to Nurnberg and experienced many Christmas traditions and learned the history of many of the small places enroute. The cruise was great and I would recommend it highly. The staff were exceptional, very efficient, knowledgeable and lots of fun. I especially appreciated the efforts of the chef to provide locally sourced foods, and the wide variety he had on the menus for dinner and the buffets for lunch and supper. The young service people in the dining room, treated ... Read More...

Perfect Adventure for adult children and senior parents!,

10/1/2013
I just wanted to drop you a line. My sister , mother and I just completed our first Uni-world 12 day cruise through Germany.

What a delight. It was perfect for the more active like my sister and I and also for my 80 year old mother, who sometime was content to just sit and watch the action from the boat.

We got to enjoy the historic outings whether she felt up to it or not.

I highly recommend this vacation for Adult children and their parents. Everyone will have a good time, even the mobility challenged. />
The service and friendliness of the staff were incredible. They often would even check on my mother when I was not on board.

The food was great, and historical tours were just the right pace. We so enjoyed so much this, that we may do it again in two years, to China.

Having been on many large impersonal liners, but this was perfect with the intimacy of the 130 passengers. The 35 employees on board became like family.

It's like a floating hotel.

I have a feeling this well kept secret will not be a secret much longer.

What a wonderful experience. Read More...

River Duchess: Pampered like a King and Queen,

7/16/2013
Recently, we returned from our first river cruise on the Danube. Our whole trip was a very unique, enjoyable experience. The highlight for us, was the ship itself. After an interesting day of touring, it was a welcome relief to come back to the total comfort and luxury of the ship. Our dining room experience, interacting with other guests and staff, was amazing. Richard, our maître de, was extraordinary! His sense of humour, attentiveness to helping everyone and sensitivity to others were very commendable. He helped wherever possible and set a shining example for his staff. His staff followed his ... River Duchess,

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the River Duchess from Amsterdam to Bucharest. One could not fault any aspect of the experience. Everyone from the deckhands up made sure we were treated like friends not paying guests. Every little detail from the addictive sweets/lollies / candies in the foyer, the refreshing towels and thirst quencher on return, meals, excursions and entertainment were first class. Special mention for our Cruise Director, Ramona - a delightful, personable, always happy and smiling and extremely knowledgeable asset to Uniworld. Will definitely be cruising again with Uniworld.

Grand Christmas truly Grand,

We just returned from the Grand Christmas New Years Cruise 2012/2013. Uniworld is to be complimented for taking lemons and making lemonade. Due to no fault of Uniworld, the extra rain and snow in the previous weeks prior to our cruise caused the Danube to flood and the Rivership Duchess was unable to travel further down the river from Regensberg. Between Uniworld and the fantastic staff onboard we were bused to the next three destinations, while the river decided to either go down or up. It was decided that we would not be able to continue, so uniworld ... Read More...

Being our first river cruise we were not sure what to expect, but having read enough about Uniworld, we had high hopes. This was to be a "White Christmas" occasion.

My mother taught me that "you have only one chance at a first impression". Uniworld understands this well. Our transfer at the airport was ready and on time. To keep the review short, I will deal succinctly with a few issues.

I like ocean cruising due to the distances that can be covered, but I liked the smaller, more intimate setting of ... Read More...

Uniworld say “You shall go to the ball”….and we did!!,

1/5/2013

When we joined the impressive River Duchess at Nuremburg on 22nd December 2012 all were in festive mood and the reception given by staff as you enter the ship enhances the mood of all travel weary passengers. You are immediately immersed in the high but unobtrusive Uniworld standards of facilities and service – a standard that was maintained throughout the whole cruise.

As this was a period of celebration we had a suite, this was spacious, fittings impressive, beds plush and very comfortable. There was ample storage space for the many clothes we had brought having regard to the festive ... Read More...

"just another day in paradise",

1/1/2013
There is an old saying, "just another day in paradise", well we have experienced that in our recent Christmas Markets cruise on the River Duchess from Nuremberg to Vienna. As well as the paradise, we also enjoyed a 'winter wonderland'. Coming from 40o in Melbourne to snow was a delight and there was nothing better than standing at the front of the ship whilst it was snowing. The 'paradise' of course just does not happen, it was created by all the fabulous team on the ship. Each and everyone of the Uniworld team is very 'special'. ... Read More...

Neville & Cathy,

This review is primarily for antipodeans considering a northern hemisphere cruise.

NB: Our cruise was down river from Vienna - Istanbul (River Duchess).

Given the travel investment involved we felt a 15 day cruise was not enough to justify the time and cost so chose to break the journey north with a two day/night stopover in Dubai. Additionally we included the Prague pre-cruise extension and front loaded this with a further night in the same hotel. This gave us a suitable break (Dubai - Prague only 4.5 hours) and provided two buffer periods should there be any unexpected ... Read More...

April was beautiful and the tulips in bloom, had alot of fun. Wonderful service and food. Would take the same trip again just to see the windmills. Nice beautiful room upgraded to category 2 Room 312 was very nice, but expensive. Great big window to look out at the views while getting ready. I wasnt in my room much except to sleep and shower so i would pay less next time and go down a category like category 4 which has a water level view and smaller. Just make sure your room isnt next to an elevator or laundry or ... Read More...
