Then head to Oberndorf, where the most beloved of all Christmas carols, “Silent Night,” was performed for the first time; the village priest and choir master of nearby Arnsdorf composed the much-loved tune for a Christmas Eve service in 1818. Visit the chapel and see the little museum dedicated to the history of the carol.
